Praying in weakness

By James Brown

Can you honestly articulate to God what you’re experiencing and thinking?

Can you communicate to him what you desire and want?

Can you reveal to God your failings and imperfections?

Does God really understand?

How can a perfect God fully relate with our weakness?

Well, we need not worry because we do not have a high priest (Jesus) who is unable to empathise with our weaknesses. We have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet he did not sin (Hebrews 4:15).

Therefore we run to the arms of a father who understands. We run into the arms of a father who wants to help. We run into the arms of a father who is closer than a brother.

But what if we don’t even know what to pray?

Well, the Spirit of Jesus makes intercession on our behalf. There’s no excuse as there’s nothing holding us back. The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what to pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words. (Romans 8.26)

Therefore the father who searches the heart knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

So I guess when we feel weak, we can simply pray and trust in the Spirit to pray for us and with us. When we don’t know what to pray, that is the perfect time. That is when we should, and must, pray!
